Blepharoplasty in Houston, TX

Look youthful & refreshed with Houston Blepharoplasty

No one likes hearing they look tired. However, as aging occurs, skin elasticity declines, causing the eyelids to droop. This condition can cause you to look perpetually tired. Patients with this issue may also find it more difficult to apply eye makeup smoothly due to increased skin laxity, creases, and folds. Eyelid surgery (also called blepharoplasty) surgically removes excess lax skin to achieve eyes that look younger, brighter, and more energized. The highly skilled and board-certified surgeons at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery provide some of the most premier blepharoplasty Houston has to offer.

What are the benefits of blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty offers several benefits to patients whose eyelids appear heavy or tired due to aging or genetics. Firstly, and most obviously, you can achieve eyes that appear younger and wide awake.

Furthermore, if your eyelids interfere with your vision, you can expect a restored or improved field of vision. Lower blepharoplasty offers solutions to signs of aging or a tired appearance in the area below the eyes, reducing puffiness, sagging, or “bags”. With bright, refreshed eyes and an overall more approachable appearance, you’ll be able to enjoy your life with more confidence. Eyelid surgery involves discreet incisions for optimal, long-lasting rejuvenation that appears natural.

Who is a candidate for blepharoplasty?

While commonly used to address eyelid drooping caused by aging, cosmetic eyelid surgery is an effective treatment option for virtually anyone with heavy eyelids. Candidates should be non-smoking adults in good general health. With any surgery, you must have the capability to take ample time off from work to heal.

Preparing for your procedure

For two weeks before your surgery, you will need to avoid medications, herbs, vitamins, and other substances that may thin your blood and increase bleeding. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication for you to take during your recovery. You may pick up your prescription before your surgery so that you have it on hand after your surgery. You should also arrange for a close friend or relative to drive you home after your blepharoplasty, as you will be groggy from anesthesia.

What to expect on the day of your surgery

When you arrive at our office on the day of your procedure, your surgeon will administer general anesthesia to ensure that you are comfortable throughout your surgery. Once you are fully asleep, your surgeon will create an incision within the natural crease below your lower lash line.

Via this incision, they will remove excess fat, muscle, and skin to create smoother under-eye contours. Then, your surgeon will close your lower eyelid incision and move on to the upper eyelid. To ensure that all of your blepharoplasty incisions are well-concealed, your surgeon will make an incision within the natural crease of your upper eyelid to remove the excess skin contributing to your droopy or sleepy appearance. Then, they will reposition the underlying muscle and tighten your skin for a rejuvenated appearance throughout the entire eye area. The expert Houston plastic surgeons at The Clinic for Plastic Surgery offer the skill and finesse to achieve natural-looking blepharoplasty results.

Recovery

As soon as you wake up from anesthesia, you will be able to head home to begin your recovery.

You are likely to experience soreness and tightness around your eyes for several days, as well as swelling. You will be able to reduce swelling and inflammation with cold compresses and moisturizing eye drops. You will need to return to our office one week after your surgery to have your sutures removed and for an evaluation of your progress.

You can expect to return to your normal daily activities ten days after your eye surgery. However, you will need to continue caring for your eyes by avoiding strenuous exercise and wearing sunglasses with dark lenses to protect your eyes from wind and sun exposure. After four weeks, you will be healed and able to return to rigorous activities.

Blepharoplasty FAQs

Will my blepharoplasty results be permanent?

Blepharoplasty offers long-lasting results, essentially turning back the clock with regard to aging around the eyes. While eyelid surgery offers substantial rejuvenation, it cannot prevent future aging. Blepharoplasty results last approximately seven years in most cases.

How many times can I get blepharoplasty?

There is no hard and fast rule regarding how many times you can undergo blepharoplasty. While you may choose to have maintenance surgery after your initial results begin to wear off, some patients maintain their youthful appearance with other procedures, such as a brow lift.

The Clinic for Plastic Surgery loves to be a part of our patients’ journeys. That starts with a consultation. No matter which path you choose, you will feel more knowledgeable and confident about your decision after a meeting with our board-certified Houston plastic surgeons. Schedule a consultation today.
