Breast augmentation is the surgical enhancement of the bustline to achieve more attractive body contours.
Breast augmentation has evolved over the years to include various surgical techniques and materials to produce natural-looking and feeling results. The versatility of modern breast augmentation allows each patient to carefully tailor their breasts according to their personal preferences and body proportions. When performed with the finesse of an experienced surgeon, breast augmentation provides patients with fuller, more symmetrical, lifted, and supple breasts.
By enhancing the feminine appeal of the bustline with breast augmentation, patients often experience a significant increase in self-confidence and fulfillment.
As a result of this hugely and consistently popular procedure, patients find that clothing fits better. This benefit is especially true for patients with substantial breast asymmetry who struggle to find bras that fit properly, as one breast may be a different cup size than the other. At The Clinic for Plastic Surgery in Houston breast augmentation can effectively correct this common problem, along with concerns about the size and overall appearance of the breasts in relation to the body, for a beautifully proportionate and feminine figure. We offer silicone, saline, and anatomical breast implants to accommodate each individual’s aesthetic and textural preferences.
The ideal candidate for breast augmentation is ready to take control of her aesthetic happiness and realize the figure of her dreams. There is little more empowering than proactively addressing concerns that hinder one’s ability to seize each of life’s moments with the utmost confidence. Breast augmentation allows women with concerns about their bustline to live life fully and unapologetically.
During your consultation for breast augmentation, you will have the opportunity to explore all of your procedure options, including your implant size, shape, and texture, as well as choices related to your implant and incision placement.
Silicone, saline, and anatomical breast implants offer unique benefits to support each individual's ideal results. You will have the opportunity to examine your implant options personally, and your surgeon will explain in detail your implant and incision placement options. Your surgeon may instruct you to avoid or temporarily discontinue some medications and supplements in the days or weeks before your surgery. In addition, patients who smoke will need to quit a minimum of four weeks prior to their surgery date. You will also need to make arrangements for someone close to you to drive you home and provide care for at least 24 hours after your breast augmentation.
You will be under general anesthesia for your breast augmentation so that you will be asleep throughout your entire surgery.
Once you are ready, your plastic surgeon will administer your incisions either around the areola, in the armpit, or along the bottom crease of your breast. Through this access point, your surgeon will create a pocket in which to place your implant. Your doctor will insert your implant into the pocket behind your natural breast tissue. Depending on your personal preference, your breast implant will sit either under or over your pectoral muscle. Implants placed on top of the muscle may require extra support in the form of acellular dermal matrix, a specially-designed tissue that your body will replace with natural collagen over time. Your surgeon will close your incisions and apply gauze and monitor you closely as you wake up from surgery before sending you home to recover.
You should expect to stay home from work for five to seven days to allow your body ample time to heal from your breast augmentation. Swelling, bruising, and pain are common in the days following surgery, though your surgeon will provide you with prescribed medication to alleviate discomfort. You will return to our office approximately one week after your surgery for suture removal and an evaluation of your recovery progress. While you will be able to return to limited activity at this time, you will be able to return to your normal daily function within three weeks.
You will notice changes in your breasts immediately after your surgery. However, it will take time for your final breast augmentation results to appear. As swelling and inflammation subside, you will begin to realize the full effects of your breast augmentation. You will also need to allow your implants to settle gradually into their permanent location. This process is commonly referred to as the “drop and fluff”, as surrounding tissues adjust to the weight and pressure of the implants. Within three to six months, you will have a good idea of what your final results will look like, with your ultimate results developing over the year following your surgery.

The most commonly complementary procedure performed with breast augmentation is a breast lift. For patients with significant excess skin that contributes to breast sagging, a breast lift can enhance your breast augmentation by lifting the breasts’ position on the chest wall for a more youthful look.
No worries! While your breast augmentation results can last for years or even over a decade in some cases, we offer breast augmentation revision to allow your aesthetic to evolve with your preferences.
